Temporomandibular Joint & Muscles Of Mastication (Clinical Session)


TEMPORALIS MUSCLE
  Origin : Entire temporal fossa (along inferiors temporal line)
  Insertion : Coronoid process (along apex, anterior and posterior border)
  Action : Elevate & Retrude mandible
  Nerve Supply :
Temporal branch of mandibular division of CNV


MASSETER MUSCLE

  Origin : Zygomatic Arch (medial &inferior border)
  Insertion : Angle of mandible, Inferior & lateral part of ramus 
  Action : Elevate mandible
  Nerve Supply : Masseteric branch of mandibular division of CNV




LATERAL PTERYGOID MUSCLE

  Origin : Lateral surface of lateral pterygoid plate, Greater wing of sphenoid 
  Insertion : Neck of condyle (pterygoid fovea), Articular disc & capsule of TMJ 
  Action : Depress, Protrude & Lateral excursion of mandible
  Nerve Supply : Lateral pterygoid branch of mandibular division of 
CNV

MEDIAL PTERYGOID MUSCLE
  Origin : Medial surface of lateral pterygoid plate, Palatine (pyramidal process) 
  Insertion : Medial surface of ramus, Angle of mandible 
  Action : Elevate, Protrude & Lateral excursion of mandible
  Nerve Supply : Medial pterygoid branch of mandibular division of CNV
